NEW free sexual violence training taster sessions for local organisations

We are pleased to be launching a 90-minute training taster session for businesses, clubs and organisations across Darlington and County Durham.

The new taster session will be offered free of charge and provide those who attend with an introduction to sexual violence, its impact on survivors and how to respond when someone discloses an experience of sexual violence.

RSACC CEO Isabel Owens explains: “We are delighted to be launching this new workshop as a way to make our training more accessible to local businesses, clubs and organisations.

“Our hope is that attendees will gain from the knowledge we share during this initial session, which is backed by more than 30 years’ experience working with survivors, and that they’ll also consider developing their expertise further by learning about our more in-depth half-day courses.”

The free training sessions will preferably be delivered in person and are designed for groups of between 5 – 10 people from the same business, club or organisation.

RSACC Training Facilitator Jacqui says she hopes the new session will help to open up conversations around sexual violence and give people greater confidence in supporting survivors: “Sexual violence can be a difficult subject to talk about, and there are still many misconceptions around it, including the belief that it is rare or that we are unlikely to know someone who has been affected.

“I hope this workshop will help to challenge some of those beliefs and give people a better understanding of the impact sexual violence can have on survivors. Most importantly, I hope it will empower people to feel more confident supporting anyone who discloses an experience of sexual violence to them.”

Part of RSACC’s mission is to help end sexual violence in Darlington and County Durham by raising awareness, improving understanding and supporting people affected by sexual violence.

Isabel added: “We hope that by raising awareness and deepening understanding through our training programmes – both this free taster session and our further courses – we’ll be helping to make our community both safer and more supportive.”

RSACC will initially offer two free training taster sessions each month. To find out more or register your interest in a future session, email training@rsacc-thecentre.org.uk.
