Does RSACC support men?
Our CEO, Debbie Barker, explains our commitment to supporting male survivors of rape or sexual abuse
Our charity is run by and for women and our mission is to support and empower women and girls whilst working to end rape and sexual violence in Darlington and County Durham.
In an ideal world, we would stick steadfastly to our core purpose. In fact, in an ideal world RSACC and other branches of Rape Crisis would not need to exist at all. In reality, demand is higher than ever and our expert team is here to offer free, confidential support to those who have experienced rape or sexual violence at any time in their lives.
Currently there are no equivalent services at all in our area for boys and men who would like to talk to someone about rape or sexual abuse. Until this changes, we welcome referrals from male survivors, either self-referrals or through trusted partner organisations as we are able to support boys and men in alternative premises to our women only safe space.
Our confidential services available to men and boys include;
- Counselling
- Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs)
- Helpline
