Here at the Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (RSACC) we take your privacy very seriously.  The information below details how we use your information and your rights regarding how we process your personal data.

About us

RSACC is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and our registered address is P.O. Box 106, Darlington, DL3 7YS. We are a ‘data controller’ which means we are responsible for deciding how we hold and use your personal information. The legal basis which allows us to use and hold your information is our legitimate interest to deliver services to survivors of sexual violence. We can not deliver these services unless we collect this information. In some circumstances we are able to use your information because we ask you to give your consent for us to do this.

The kind of information we hold about you

Personal data, or personal information, means any information about an individual from which that person can be identified. It does not include data where the identity has been removed (anonymous data). There are “special categories” of more sensitive personal data which require a higher level of protection, such as information about a person’s health or sexual orientation.

The client information RSACC holds and uses includes personal data and special categories of data. This includes name, date of birth, gender, address, phone numbers, email address. It also includes sensitive data such as ethnicity, sexuality and disabilities. We also hold information about the incidents clients have experienced.

How we collect information

We collect your data when you are referred into our services and through out the time you are receiving a service from us.

How we use your information

We use your information to help us deliver a service to you, this allows staff or volunteers to contact you if there are any changes and keep brief records of your sessions.  We only collect personal data from you which is relevant and necessary to providing you a service. Without this information we would not be able to deliver a high quality specialist service to you.

If you are happy for us to we will also you’re your information to contact you in the future to give feedback on our services.

We will not transfer your data outside of the EU and we will not use your data for direct marketing purposes.

Sharing your information

Protecting your confidentiality is very important to us. We will never share your information without your permission unless;

  • It is necessary to protect you or someone else’s life
  • We are required to for the detection or prevention on a crime 

How long do we keep your data?

We will keep your data for 7 years in securely locked cabinets in our archive and on our database.  After this period, we will destroy your data securely by shredding your paper files and permanently deleting your record from our data base.

Your data rights

You have the right to;

  • Access your data- you can contact us either verbally or in writing to request access to your personal data that we hold.
  • Have inaccurate personal data rectified- you can contact us to ask us to change incorrect personal information we hold
  • Have your data erased- you can contact us to ask us to erased your data
  • Restrict us processing your personal data- you can contact us to ask us to restrict your personal data that we process
  • Object to us processing your personal data- you can contact us to object to us using your personal data
  • Raise a complaint about our data processing with the Information Commissioners Office
  • Request the transfer of your personal information to another party.

How to contact us about your personal data

If you want to review, verify, correct or request erasure of your personal information, object to the processing of your personal data, or request that we transfer a copy of your personal information to another party, you can contact our Privacy Officer using the contact information detailed below. We will not charge you to access you personal data, but we may need to confirm your identity to ensure you have the right to access the information.
