News in 2011

Lynne Hinde, our CEO, has won a Durham Police Authority Community Award in the 'Caring' category. We are very proud to receive the award and it could not have gone to a more deserving recipient.

The AGM is to held at Bannatyne's on 30th November followed by a conference in the afternoon for the first time ever! Guest speakers are from Respect and Rights of Women and we are enthusiastic about stimulating some interesting debate on topical issues.

The Fundraising Ball was held at Rockliffe Hall on 29th October 2011. Over £4,000 was raised and the event was a huge success. Thank you to all those who supported the event and helped to make the Ball an enjoyable and fun night!

Darlington MP Jenny Chapman performed a free-abseil inside St. Cuthbert's church in the Centre of Darlington on Saturday 18th June. Jenny is kindly donating most of her sponsorship money to the Centre and we are very grateful for her efforts and support - especially as she is afraid of heights!.

The new Data Performance Management System was installed in June 2011 and is up and running! This is a National system for Rape Crisis Centres and will be instrumental in evidencing the value of our service for the future!

The Centre held a  Volunteer Reunion as part of the 21st birthday celebrations. The event took place at Bannatyne's Hotel on 6th April and was open to all volunteers past and present! Those who attended had a fabulous night!

In April 2011, 6 workers from the Centre will be attended the 'Recovery Tool-Kit' Training in Newcastle with a view to offering a complementary programme to the currently delivered Freedom Programme in the coming year.

As of March 2011, two more Centre volunteers have now completed the 'Post Qualifying Diploma in Working with Children and Young People'. Five Centre workers have now completed this 7 month course. Congratulations to all!

In February 2011, 3 workers attended the National Rape Crisis (England & Wales) AGM and conference. Important information gleaned from the conference concerned future funding opportunities and the introduction of the new Data Performance and Management System.

In February it was confirmed that the Centre would receive a grant for the second year from the 'Equality and Human Rights Commission'. We are very grateful for their ongoing support.

In January 2011, the Centre's Own TRAINING CALENDAR started with external training being offered on a regular set basis for the first time. External training days will continue to be offered to agencies upon request to suit their workers if they are unable to attend the training calendar dates.  

In January 2011 the Centre staff and Volunteers received training on 'Communicating through Interpreters'.
